ABOUT: "The Devil has come to Los Angeles…

Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.

Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him – as well as his best friend and confidante, MAZIKEEN aka MAZE (Lesley-Ann Brandt, “The Librarians”), a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman."

Watching the first episode, I could not help but chuckle at the notion of a British-English speaking protagonist, while not too long ago, said-British-English-speaking characters took over the Russians as the celluloid villain of choice …. and now? He is Lucifer Morningstar, the Devil incarnate on the mortal plain! LOL

First knee-jerk reaction was to balk at the black hair this actor wore, versus the blonde do seen in Vertigo Comics … but truth be tolds, I was not such a huge fan if the character to make a faux-fuss (unlike the recent "Constantine", which I had only just remembered I'd not publish the blogpost about his cancelled series…), and instead somewhat likened him to "Jesse Custer" from another upcoming AMC tv series "Preacher" (also adapted from a Vertigo comicbook series).

British actor "Tom Ellis" had equipped himself well as "The Lord of Hell who is bored of his life, abdicates and becomes a consultant for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) while running his own nightclub called Lux" - with the smarmy Brit-dick act down phat, oozing sleaze (rather than "sexy") and makes himself fall between the categories of "LIKEABLE" and "ASSHOLE". Deciding to go "SNARK" instead of "SMOOTH", I am interested to see how this fares are the series progresses.

Thus far I am liking his in-built ability to compel folks around him to speak the truth (instead of the "Devil lying to you"), and his constant admittance and mention of his immortality is refreshingly funny, especially when no one around him believe him. Decent job, this.

The supporting actors did not get as much focus as Lucifer in the first episode, except for the leading lady LAPD homicide detective "Chloe Dancer" played by American actress "Lauren German" (The world's 47th sexiest woman in Maxim 2001), whose former-porn-actress-turned-policewoman backstory crooked an eyebrow or two, IMHO...

Is tis series glorifying "Satan"? Promoting devil worshipping? Without a doubt some folks might feel this way, and I will not deny them their opinion about it.

I personally choose to look at it as "commercial entertainment", and have found Ep1 an interesting and enjoyable watch, and I would be looking forward to catching more of the series as I come across them.

WHAT-IS: "Lucifer is an upcoming American television series that is set to air on Fox, and it is a loose adaptation of the comic book character created by Neil Gaiman for the comic book series The Sandman and its spin off comic book series Lucifer written by Mike Carey, both published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. The series was officially picked up on May 9, 2015 for the 2015–16 season and it is scheduled to premiere in 2016.

The series will focus on Lucifer, "who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell and resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the beauty of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.""
